Find Your Inner Goddess

“She wears strength and darkness equally well. The girl has always been half Goddess, half hell.” -Nikita Gill

Girl, you’re a Goddess — you are beautiful, smart, unique, and strong! And hey…don’t look at this screen with disbelief. I meant what I said! We all have an inner warrior Goddess, but sometimes we have trouble releasing that side of ourselves, or accepting that we could be so magical.

With the launch of the Goddess Collection approaching, I thought I should introduce you all to the Goddesses who inspired me to create these candles! I hope they inspire you just as much, and help you see the magic in yourself. Personally, I see these Goddesses as different parts of myself — Athena, the warrior; Persephone, the nurturing yet fierce; Selene, the mysterious; Hecate, fearless and magical; and Aphrodite, the lover. After reading more about these Goddesses, comment below and let me know which one you resonate with the most!

Athena, Goddess of Wisdom & Victory

Athena is one of the daughters of Zeus, and thought to be his favorite one. The story goes that Athena was born from Zeus’s head and came out ready to go! She is a fierce and ruthless warrior and has won many battles, standing up for people who can’t defend themselves as well. Athena can bring your courage and spark a fire in you when you need it most. Aside from her fiery side, she was also known to be compassionate and generous. All in all, Athena is a badass, warrior Goddess that we could all learn from through her strength and determined nature.

Aphrodite, Goddess of Love

If you know even just a little bit about Greek Goddesses, you’ve most likely heard of Aphrodite. She is not only the Goddess of love, but of fertility and beauty. She is said to have rose from the foam of the sea, and was one of (if not the) most beautiful Goddesses. They say her beauty could even start wars. Aphrodite had many lovers, but was only in love with one man — a mortal named Adonis. She is also the mother of Eros (aka Cupid)! If you need some love in your life, even self-love, or if you are having issues with fertility, Aphrodite is the Goddess to look to.

Persephone, Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld

Persephone has a unique story. If you’ve ever watched Hercules as a kid, you’ll recognize this name: Hades. Hades fell in love with Persephone’s looks, and stole her to be his bride in the Underworld. With Persephone abducted, her mother Demeter created the very first winter out of her anger and sadness. Without Persephone, there would be no flowers or warm, sunny days. Zeus allows Persephone to come back for only a short time each year, thus bringing Spring! Persephone is thought to be a nurturing, accepting Queen, but with a fierceness inside her. We can all learn from her how to make the best of our situations and find the beauty in everything.

Selene, Goddess of the Moon

Personally, I love Selene because I absolutely love the moon & her power. The ancient Greeks thought of Selene to be the representation of the moon! Selene rides across the sky each night in her chariot, lighting the night along her way. She is known to have the power of putting people to sleep, as well as controlling time like the moon does. Selene is mysterious like the night sky and can remind us of the balance of the Universe — where there is light, there will also be darkness. Find the beauty in that as we do with the night sky.

Hecate, Goddess of Magic and Witchcraft

Finally, Hecate — a very powerful Goddess who I’ve truly enjoyed learning about! Hecate is thought to be capable of both good and evil. This is because she walks the line of the shadows, as she is connected to the night and ghosts. She is a Goddess who has strength in the spiritual world and can glide between the veil with ease. Fun fact, she actually guides Persephone to and from the Underworld each year, and was involved in the initial search for her when she was abducted. In art, Hecate is shown as the triple Goddess, which in Wiccan beliefs is a very powerful symbol. If you need help connecting to the other side safely, or releasing your intuition, Hecate is the Goddess to call upon.

I hope you all enjoyed learning about the history of these amazing Goddesses! Are there any that you are really interested in or feel connected to? Comment below and let me know which one!
